Homemade Playdough Recipe (that actually works)

SO in all my years of teaching kindergarten, I never found a playdough recipe that I was happy with. This week, Big Boy came home with one for me to make for his class. We tried it out yesterday and it worked really well! It smells, feels, and looks just like the real thing! The ingredients were all familiar, but the one thing that I think made a huge difference was cooking it- BRILLIANT! Ha, well maybe you already knew this secret, but I did not. Below is a great recipe for some homemade dough (and a very fun science experiment in making it):

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoons cooking oil
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
food coloring (optional)

Mix all ingredients together in bowl and then place in pot on the stove. Cook on high heat stirring constantly until mixture forms into a ball (you will notice the playdough-like texture). Allow to cool; store in an air-tight container :)
